So you’re ready to bring home a brand new, precious little 800 lb. home or gun safe. But you can’t just wrap it up in a blanket and put it in your backseat. So how much would it cost to have a gun safe delivered? Unless it’s an extreme circumstance, safe delivery can cost between $200 and $700 dollars. In this video, we’re going to talk about all the factors that go into that cost.
- How a gun safe’s weight can affect the price
- How the cost can change depending on where the safe is being installed in your home
- And how your home’s location affects the delivery price.
Before we dive into the cost, let us quickly answer a question many people have about buying a safe. Most companies, whether they’re large, national retail chains, or small, independent safe dealers, offer delivery and installation. You’ll want to verify this before purchasing your safe, but most either have their own safe movers, or they partner with a moving company.
Remember, safes are heavy, and they’re awkward to move. You can do some serious damage to your home, or the people helping you, if you try to move one on your own. Because of that, we always recommend letting the pros handle it.
How Much Does the Gun Safe Weigh?
The first thing that affects the cost of your safe’s delivery is, of course, weight. The heavier the gun safe, the more you’ll pay for delivery. This is in large part because heavier safes require beefier equipment, and more manpower, which are both more expensive. Most movers break it down into different tiers. For example: tier one could be for safes between 100 and 699 lbs. Tier two would cover 700 to 899 lbs. Tier three may be 900 to 1199 lbs. And tier four would cover really big boys—anything over 1200 lbs.
Where Do You Want the Gun Safe Installed?
Weight isn’t the only thing to consider, but brings us to item two: where ya gonna put the beast?
If the safe movers will have to haul your shiny new baby up and down a bunch of stairs, it’ll cost more. Most safe movers will also break this down into different tiers. Most have one charge for curbside and garage delivery, one for main floor delivery, and one charge if you need to have your safe hauled up or down stairs.
How Far Away Do You Live?
Finally, where you live can affect the cost of your safe delivery. Some companies charge by mile, so the further away you live, the more you’ll pay. Most have a radius that’s included in their pricing. For example, they may not charge extra if you live within 20 miles of their store, but you’ll have to pay an additional fee for every mile after that.
Those are the basic factors that will affect your safe’s delivery. There are a few other things that you may want to think about, though. If the movers have to haul your safe across dirt, rocks, or anything crazy, it’ll cost a little bit more. Some companies charge an additional fee to bolt your safe down to the floor. Some won’t unbox your safe for a garage delivery—you’ll be responsible for that. It’s always a good idea to call the safe company ahead of time, and ask them for specifics on what their delivery charges include.
It may cost a little extra, but you’ll probably be glad you decided to have professionals to do the heavy lifting. So keep that in mind as you shop for a safe.
